Minister Shannon Phillips, Industry Leaders to Address Alberta Wind Energy Summit
May 2, 2017
Emerging Alberta wind energy opportunities to be discussed at CanWEA special event
The Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA) is inviting accredited media to attend the CanWEA Alberta Summit on May 9, 2017 at The Westin Edmonton in downtown Edmonton.
The CanWEA Alberta Summit brings together wind energy professionals from across Canada to discuss emerging opportunities and challenges as the province begins implementing its plan to supply 30 per cent of electricity used in Alberta from renewable sources by 2030.
The government’s plan to support development of 5,000 MW of renewable energy capacity, starting with a 400 MW request for proposals this year, will make Alberta the largest market for new capacity in the country and attract billions of dollars of new investment.
Issues to be discussed include emerging economic opportunities for Alberta businesses, securing community support for wind energy projects, pursuing environmentally sustainable wind energy development, and ensuring wind energy’s contribution to a reliable and affordable electricity grid.
In addition to a line-up of wind energy expert speakers, the program features keynote addresses from:
- The Honourable Shannon Phillips, Alberta Minister of Environment and Parks and the Minister Responsible for the Climate Change Office
- Mike Law, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Alberta Electric System Operator
Please see the CanWEA Alberta Summit detailed program for more information.
