Canada’s Largest Annual Wind Energy Conference and Exhibition Announces Keynote Speakers
October 24, 2016
Ottawa, Ontario, October 24, 2016 – The Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA) and its partner Hannover Fairs (Canada) has announced CanWEA’s 32nd Annual Conference and Exhibition keynote speakers. Canadian and international wind and renewable energy experts will gather at this year’s event on November 1-3, 2016 at the BMO Center in Calgary, Alberta.
“Every one of our conference speakers is a leader in the wind industry and is dedicated to supporting CanWEA’s efforts to advance wind energy industry policy, communications, and business development objectives,” said Robert Hornung, CanWEA President. “Today, wind energy plays a significant and growing role in delivering clean, safe and affordable energy as Canada’s provinces look to build more diverse, robust, and sustainable electricity systems and position themselves to compete in the rapidly advancing low-carbon economy. Maintaining this momentum will require continued commitments to long-term, aggressive targets for wind energy development and a stable policy framework, along with responsible and sustainable industry practices.”
This year’s conference brings these discussions to the heart of emerging new opportunities for wind in Canada, as the Alberta and Saskatchewan governments make renewable energy a central part of their climate change strategies. Kicking off CanWEA’s 32nd Annual Conference and Exhibition are CanWEA Board Chair, Ben Greenhouse, Robert Hornung, and the Mayor of Calgary, His Worship Naheed Nenshi. The session will discuss the challenges and opportunities these provinces face as they work to make the Prairies the next big destination for wind energy development in Canada.
Additional speakers at this year’s Wind Energy Conference include:
- The Honorable Catherine McKenna, Federal Minister of Environment and Climate Change
- The Honorable Shannon Phillips, Alberta’s Minister of Environment and Parks and Minister Responsible for the Climate Change Office
- Guy Bruce, Vice-President, Planning, Environment and Sustainable Development, SaskPower
- Michael Law, Vice-President, Renewables Development and Sustainability, Alberta Electricity System Operator (AESO)
- And industry leaders representing all segments of the wind energy sector
