Canada’s Oil, Climate Divide to Test Trudeau’s Clean Tech Push
November 20, 2019
Expectations are high that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will make greening the Canadian economy a big part of his government’s mandate during his second term in office.
Trudeau won re-election last month promising lots of support for clean industries, including halving corporate tax rates for clean technology firms and a CA$5 billion ($3.8 billion) clean power fund. He names his new Cabinet Nov. 20, an announcement typically used to telegraph priorities.
“We’re taking time to think about the message that was sent to us by Canadians,” Trudeau told reporters after meeting his new caucus in Ottawa earlier this month. “We want to make sure we move forward in the right way.”
