How do you see the future of wind energy?
Once a year you have a unique chance to show us by entering the Power of Wind contest!
CanWEA developed the Power of Wind contest as part of its Friends of Wind public engagement program. Each year we invite students and members of the general public to share their vision of how wind energy can contribute to Canada’s future by submitting a photo or visual image that illustrates, expresses, or generally conveys this vision.
The contest is usually launched on Global Wind Day (June 15) and runs throughout the summer until early August. Winning entries are announced in the Fall. Winning entries along with up to 10 honourable mentions, will be featured in the next annual Friends of Wind calendar.
There are 3 prizes awarded each year – one prize for the general public category and two prizes for students (open to Canadian citizens or permanent residents only). Prize money of $1,000 each is available for all three winners along with placement of their entry into the Friends of Wind Calendar the next year. Honourable mentions (up to ten) also receive placement in the annual calendar.
How to Enter
Submissions may be made either by post or email along with biography and contact information by the stated deadline. See official rules for more information.
CanWEA puts together a selection panel to review the submissions. They deliberate and select the winning entries based on their effective use of positive messaging, vibrant or unique use of colour, and optimistic forward-looking imagery. Ideally, winning submissions will provide a sense of motivation and hope for a clean energy future in Canada. The decisions of the selection panel are final.
